Thor kinda breaks my heart in this scene. His brother is about to use him to “test if gods are immortal”, and he just stands there in stunned silence. He doesn’t threaten Loki or try to reason with him. But he does cry. (it’s hard to tell from the blurry cam gifs)
Because for all intents and purposes these brothers still love each other. It’s the same reason Loki cries when he stabs Thor. As much as he wants to, he can’t hate him. For Thor, he’s heartbroken because he lost his brother and was too wrapped up in himself when it happened to be able to stop it and he can’t FIX it. Loki has turned into something he doesn’t recognize and is willing to hurt him and that breaks Thor’s heart. He learned compassion while on Earth, but it was too late to save Loki.
